Four libraries are set to reopen across North Ayrshire for the first time since lockdown as the fate of services hangs in the balance. Kilbirnie and Irvine libraries will reopen week beginning May 10, with Stevenston and Largs libraries reopening week beginning May 17 with all group activities remaining off for the time being. Kilbirnie and Stevenston Employability Hubs which are based within the libraries will also reopen. These libraries will be available for residents to enter, browse and borrow books on: · Kilbirnie – Mondays, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm (from May 10) · Irvine library – Tuesdays, 2-5pm, and Thursdays, 10am-1pm (from May 11)

The City of Mississauga is celebrating the achievements of students who have completed the City’s Climate Change Youth Challenge,
. The City will be hosting an online Youth Summit celebration on Thursday, May 6, 2021, during National Youth Week. The summit will include a keynote address from Kehkashan Basu, a Canadian youth and environmental and human rights activist as well as a special video message from Canadian Olympian, Hayley Wickenheiser. It will also include a careers panel, featuring four sustainability leaders who will explore various career paths in climate change action and environmental sustainability. The summit will wrap up with the announcement of first, second and third-place award recipients.
Council chiefs have appointed their new community boss in the latest internal staff member selection. Rhona Arthur was appointed the council’s new Connected Communities head of service having served as interim boss for the department and information and culture senior manager. The latest internal appointment was made at a meeting of North Ayrshire Council’s Staffing and Recruitment Committee late last month. Meetings papers state four candidates were up for interview for the post – with one deciding to pull out ahead of the interview stage. We previously reported how Audrey Sutton had been appointed as Executive Director Communities and education after the council previously approved a new chief officer and directorate structure.
