SOMERVILLE, MA A months-long investigation involving the Massachusetts State Police, the U.S. Secret Service and police departments from Somerville, Cambridge, Woburn, Malden, Melrose and Wakefield targeted suspected members of the Port44 gang, police said.
The gang is suspected of trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs in the Middlesex County area. It has also been tied to multiple murders and other violent crimes stemming from an ongoing turf war against other rival gangs in the Somerville and Cambridge area, police said.

WOODLAWN, MD A boy who was shot and injured Sunday in Woodlawn was targeted, police reported Monday.
Officers said they found the boy near the site of a two-vehicle crash in the 8500 block of Liberty Road, where they were called early Sunday morning for a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Liberty and Old Court roads.
The boy was in a 2006 Dodge Charger, whose driver accelerated into oncoming traffic and was hit by a Ford Fusion, police said.

ROCKVILLE, MD Maryland State Police have identified a man who was killed after getting out of his vehicle on Interstate 270 in Bethesda Monday morning.
Lloyd A. Gardiner, 57, of Silver Spring, was traveling northbound I-270, at Rockledge Boulevard, around 12:40 a.m. when he got into an accident and subsequently exited his vehicle to investigate, state troopers assigned to the Rockville Barrack said.
While outside, a second vehicle crashed into his vehicle, pushing it into him, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle remained on the scene, according to police. Gardiner s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
