Covid jabs to key workers, then elderly followed by comorbid people of 24-60 yrs hikes impact: ICMR study According to the study, the priority groups together account for about 18 per cent of India s population. Highlighting the findings of the study, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said in low-intensity transmission areas such as sparsely populated areas, vaccinating individuals with comorbidity after key workers and then reaching out to those above 60 years appears to be an elegant public health approach.

Targeted vaccination drive a better strategy: ICMR study | India News

NEW DELHI: “Smart vaccination” approaches that target the vulnerable population in the context of the Indian Covid-19 epidemic make for a smarter public health choice than mass vaccination, a mathematical modelling-based analysis by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) says. The analysis shows an infection-preventing vaccine with 60% efficacy covering all priority groups would reduce peak symptomatic incidence of Covid-19 by 20.6% and total deaths by 29.7%. A similar vaccine with ability to prevent symptoms, but not infection, will reduce peak incidence of symptomatic cases by 10.4% and cumulative mortality by 32.9%. The study supports a focus on vulnerable or priority group vaccination that seeks to reduce the incidence of mortality and offer greater protection against the disease. In a situation when vaccine supply is insufficient to cover all priority groups, model projections suggest that after key workers, prior

Hospitalised Covid patients were more likely of dying during second wave, says Analysis

Hospitalised Covid-19 patients were more likely to need oxygen and ventilation and had a significantly greater risk of dying during India’s second wave than the first, a nationwide analysis from 44 hospitals has found. The analysis, released on Saturday by a consortium of doctors and medical researchers, has found that mortality among sampled patients during the second wave was 13.3 per cent, or 30 per cent higher than the 10.2 per cent mortality observed during the first wave.
