It is to be noted that one person also lost his life due to the mysterious illness. The experts mentioned in their reports submitted to the government that the amount of pesticides and herbicides found in the vegatables were more than the permissible limits. A team of scientists at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) said that traces of mercury were found in rice and residues of organophosphorous in blood. The NIN, however, added that more study is needed to find out how these materials entered the human body.

Eluru Illness: AP CM Asks Officials To Keep A Check On Dumping Yards Dec 17, 2020, 08:23 IST Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a video conference on the cause for illness in Eluru with experts. AIIMS, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) and other reputed institutions have confirmed that the residues of pesticides could be the reason for the outbreak of the mysterious disease in Eluru.  The Chief Minister said all types of tests should be conducted so that incidents like Eluru would not repeat. The  Chief Minister told to focus on maintenance of dumping yards and instructed the officials to conducts all possible tests across West Godavari district. The Chief Minister instructed to test drinking water samples from all sources in all the districts. The samples should be collected systematically and should be analysed with experts, he said. PTI file Naveen S Garewal  Hyderabad, December 17  Nearly two weeks after a mystery disease struck the Eluru town of Andhra Pradesh, the official machinery has finally come to the conclusion that pesticide particles could be responsible for the mystery disease.  The finding has been supported by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and other science institutes that were probing the mystery disease. Earlier too, it was thought to be a chemical, but the suggestion was towards anti-mosquito sprays.

Organochlorine through pesticides may be cause of mysterious Eluru illness: AIIMS experts ANI | Updated: Dec 16, 2020 22:54 IST Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], December 16 (ANI): While investigations continue to identify the cause of the sudden outbreak of the mysterious illness in Andhra Pradesh s Eluru, experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), after comparing test results from several institutions, have opined that organochlorine, substances found in pesticides, could be contributing to the cause of the spread of the disease. In a virtual meeting held by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday with representatives of various research institutes that conducted independent studies on the probable causes of the mysterious disease in Eluru last week.
