Two dead after Ammonia gas leak at Prayagraj s IFFCO plant in Uttar Pradesh India Published: Wednesday, December 23, 2020, 8:41 [IST] Lucknow, Dec 23: As many as two laborers working at an Ammonia plant at the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) plant in Prayagraj s Phulpur died while the condition of the other 14 employees is critical following an Ammonia gas leak on Tuesday. Representational Image According to reoorts, four laborers were admitted to the city hospital after the situation deteriorated. According to IFFCO officials, the leakage took place around 11 pm on Tuesday night at the PF-1 unit. It is also said that this is not the first time that such an incident took place. The gas leakage incidents in IFFCO have happened a number of times in the past 5-6 years.

Over fifteen employees were rushed to hospitals and are said to be in critical condition. The deceased were identified as Assistant Manager, VP Singh, and Deputy Manager, Abhyanandan Kumar. Meanwhile, it is said that the number of employees admitted to hospitals may increase further. As per preliminary information, work was underway in two units of ammonia and urea in IFFCO on Tuesday night and around 11.30 pm staff sensed an ammonia gas leak in the urea production unit. Leading to chaos, the staff on duty began running outside but around 15 people were trapped and fell unconscious.

Express News Service LUCKNOW: In a major ammonia gas leakage accident, two persons have died and 16, including three labourers, have been affected at the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited s (IFFCO) Phulpur unit in Uttar Pradesh s Prayagraj late on Tuesday night. All 16 persons affected due to ammonia inhalation have been hospitalized. While six of them were referred to Parayagraj, 10  have been getting treatment at the IFFCO township hospital in Phulpur. While two persons were discharged, the remaining 14 were said to be stable. The two dead employees have been identified as VP Singh and Abhyanandan Kumar. According to Prayagraj DM Bhanu Chandra Goswami, the gas leakage has been stopped and the plant unit where the incident took place has been closed temporarily.
