Maharashtra outpaces Tamil Nadu to rank second in India Innovation Index 2020 State govt aims to achieve the number one slot by a slew of decisions to promote start-ups, innovation and fintech Maharashtra outsmarted Tamil Nadu to reach the second place after Karnataka in India Innovation Index 2020 that was released by the NITI Aayog. Maharashtra, which is currently ruled by the Shiv Sena led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, had ranked third last year. Maharashtra Minister of Skill Development Nawab Malik told Free Press Journal, âThe government has taken a slew of decisions to promote skill development, start-up, innovation and fintech to get number one slot in the Innovation Index. The government also aims to make Maharashtra a key innovation hub. The government will strive to get Maharashtra at the top.â

Punjab, Haryana among 10 most innovative states

New Delhi, January 21 Haryana (sixth) and Punjab (10th) find place among the top 10 most innovative states as Karnataka ranks first, the Centre’s policy think tank, NITI Aayog, has said in its report India Innovation Index 2020. Released by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar in the presence of members VK Paul (Health), Ramesh Chand (Agriculture) and CEO Amitabh Kant, the index places Himachal Pradesh at the top among the hill and north-eastern states. Chandigarh has made a leap forward to rank second among the UTs after Delhi. The index, launched last year, ranks states based on whether they provide a conducive environment for registering new businesses, applying for patents, human capital and investments, among other measures.
