Damian George here with the latest breaking news and events from around the capital today. 5.30pm: Wellington Police are appealing to the public for information into the death of Richard Wallace, who was found dead in his Strathmore Park home on July 22. Police said on Friday they wanted to hear from the 70-year-old’s friends and contacts as they tried to piece together his movements before his “unexplained” death. “Mr Wallace did have injuries and we are working to understand when and how these occurred,” Detective Inspector Darrell Harpur said.

Police investigate unexplained death in Wellington home

Police are seeking to establish his movements in the week prior to his death. Mr Wallace did have injuries and we are working to understand when and how these occurred, Detective Inspector Darrell Harpur said in a statement. Because of this, his death is still being treated as unexplained at this time. It is important we provide his family with answers and so we are asking those who knew him to provide us with details about his movements between Monday 19 July and Thursday 22 July.

Arrest made after woman shot on quiet Wellington street

A police forensics team in Travers St, Vogeltown, Wellington, where a woman was shot on Sunday. The woman was taken into custody at a Carterton property, and has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the shooting. She appeared in the Masterton District Court earlier today and has been remanded in custody. Harpur said police were continuing to investigate this incident, and officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a distinctive blue early-2000s station-wagon in the Wellington city area between 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Sunday. This includes anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage.
