The body of Delmar Police Cpl. Keith Heacook, who was a 22-year veteran of the force, was transported from Short Funeral Home in Delmar, Delaware, to Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury, Maryland, Monday. Hundreds of law enforcement officials as well as members of the community, attended the funeral, Fox 5 DC reported. Roads by the church were to be closed off since around 4 a.m., WJZ reported.

He was assaulted April 25 while responding to a 911 call in the Yorkshire Estates community of Delmar, Delaware. He was critically injured and officials at a Baltimore trauma center pronounced him clinically deceased April 28, though he remained on life support so his organs could be donated.

Heath Heacook, hundreds of police officers from throughout Delaware and Maryland joined together May 10 at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury, Md., to memorialize the 22-year law-enforcement veteran. Heacook, 54, died April 28 at Baltimore Shock Trauma, three days after he was brutally attacked as he answered a call reporting a fight in progress at a Delmar residence. Heacook was escorted from Short Funeral Home in Delmar to the church, where visitation lasted two hours. Following the service, he was escorted back to Delmar where family and friends held private interment. Delmar police officers serve on both sides of the Delaware and Maryland state line.

47abc May 10, 2021 SALISBURY, Md. – The late Delmar Corporal Keith Heacook will be laid to rest in Salisbury on Monday. Officials say he will be transported from Short Funeral Home in Delmar to Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury starting at 8:45 in the morning. A public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until noon with the service following immediately after. Road closures are expected in the area, and we’re told Beaglin Park Drive between Old Ocean City Road and Route 50 was set to close at 4 a.m. on Monday. Heavy traffic is expected in the area, and drivers are cautioned to take their time and remain patient.
