Deer Hunting Seasons Down to Final Days

Bow and muzzleloader seasons are entering their final week for Iowa’s deer hunters. Those seasons as well as the pheasant and archery turkey hunting seasons end on Sunday, January 10th.  Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Washington and Keokuk counties Wes Gould says hunter safety starts before you get out in the field, continues with good communication with members of your hunting party so you know where everyone is during the hunt, and don’t let your guard down after bringing down a deer, “We’ll see a lot of times after somebody gets a deer, we’ll take our coats and vests off to field dress it (the deer) and we’re standing out in the field next to a deer with no orange (apparel) on and that can become a problem. We got to leave that orange on as long as we’re out in the field hunting.”
