Iowa DNR Gives Tips On National Safe Boating Week By mmcwilliams May 24, 2021 12:17 pm Saga Communications IA, (KICD) National Safe Boating Week kicks off today. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Marty Eby says the program happens before Memorial Day to remind everyone of things they need to think of as they are out on the water, such as having a life jacket.   Eby also says not to drive distracted and to be aware of things that can influence your driving, such as heat, wind, and more.   Eby also says to make use of the safety of your boat device, including the engine cut-off switch. National Safe Boating week goes until the 28th.

Deer Hunting Seasons Down to Final Days

Bow and muzzleloader seasons are entering their final week for Iowa’s deer hunters. Those seasons as well as the pheasant and archery turkey hunting seasons end on Sunday, January 10th.  Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Washington and Keokuk counties Wes Gould says hunter safety starts before you get out in the field, continues with good communication with members of your hunting party so you know where everyone is during the hunt, and don’t let your guard down after bringing down a deer, “We’ll see a lot of times after somebody gets a deer, we’ll take our coats and vests off to field dress it (the deer) and we’re standing out in the field next to a deer with no orange (apparel) on and that can become a problem. We got to leave that orange on as long as we’re out in the field hunting.”

Iowa s Second Deer Bow Hunting Season Opens Today | KCII Radio

Iowa’s second deer bow hunting season opens today and continues through January 10. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Washington and Keokuk counties Wes Gould says one of the top safety precautions for bow hunters is checking that their tree stands are structurally sound, “Making sure the straps that hold it to the tree aren’t weathered, the bolts and nuts are all tight, rust is a big thing. The biggest rule on tree stands is we can’t leave them up year round. You should take them down every year to get them out of the weather. When they’re left up year round, that leads to problems.”
