A little more than two out of every five La Crosse County households are at or near financial insecurity.
As the need grows so is local support.
“More people are eligible for the food share. And so we know the need is out there. We’ve also had a really great year as far as food donations. People have been generous. Know that is our job is to feed the community, so we’re going to move the food out to the people who are in need,” said Hunger Task Force executive director Shelly Fortner.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The Salvation Army and Hunger Task Force of La Crosse are furthering their longtime partnership to launch Food Distribution Days.
On Wednesday, volunteers helped fill boxes full of food like rice, canned peaches, stew, and stuffing. These boxes will then be distributed to families in need on the first Friday of the month.
The goal is to alleviate some of that stress families may be experiencing during the pandemic. Maybe they re trying to get caught up on their mortgage or their heat bills or their electric bills, said Major Jeff Richardson of the Salvation Army of La Crosse County. Offsetting their food cost is so much of a help to individuals, and so we re glad to be apart of it.
