About $38.5M in financial assistance available to struggling renters in Kent County

GRAND RAPIDS, MI An estimated $38.5 million in rent and utility payment assistance is flooding into Kent County.
The federal COVID-19 relief dollars, allocated this week and administered by the state, greatly exceed the previous amount of $2.8 million in rental assistance received by Kent County partners last summer.
The new dollars also have looser federal restrictions, providing far greater flexibility to help more households.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. â The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is a Christmas tradition that has been around for more than 130 years.
This year, amid covid-19, Major Glen Caddy of Salvation Army Kent County says; We are looking to serve more than 2,200 families during Christmas time, which is twice as many as we had last year.
Those donations from the red kettle campaign will be used to support after school programs for kids, socialization and feeding programs for seniors, housing assistance for families, substance abuse programs, and emergency food pantries.
