The Erie County District Attorney s Office has revealed that Larrinsha Johnson, 18, the Buffalo woman found dead in a car early last Saturday morning in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, was strangled.
The county Medical Examiner s office said the preliminary cause of death was asphyxiation due to manual strangulation, and added she was also severely beaten. An official autopsy report is pending.
Johnson was a senior at Math Science Technical Preparatory School in Buffalo. Dozens of members of the school community held a balloon-releasing ceremony at MST in her memory this week.
Her boyfriend, Mushagdusa Nankumba, 18 of Buffalo, was taken into custody shortly after police responded to a suspicious incident call at MLK Park around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. He was charged with second degree murder and is being held without bail at the Erie County Holding Center.

US Marshals arrest wanted fugitive in Amherst

AMHERST, N.Y. The United States Marshals Service Task Force says a violent fugitive from Virginia was arrested Monday in Amherst, NY.
Timothy Matthews, 27, was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service in connection to an incident that happened last month in Alexandria, Virginia. It s alleged that on March 17, Matthews shot a 26-year-old man in the leg, then fled.
Following an investigation, law enforcement believed Matthews fled to Western New York.

BUFFALO, N.Y. A previously convicted felon is under arrest after a search warrant was executed at a home in Buffalo s Broadway/Fillmore neighborhood.
The Erie County Sheriff s SWAT team, members of the Sheriff’s Narcotics and Intelligence Unit, and the Buffalo police Intelligence Unit members served the warrant at a home on Coit St. on April 20.
A quantity of suspected crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, and Xanax were recovered as well as a loaded handgun.
Kenneth Paris, 29, was arrested and charged with the following:
A felony count of criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell;

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WKBW) â A Grand Island man is facing a hate crime charge after allegedly targeting an African American victim with racially motivated harassment.
According to the Erie County Sheriff s Office, Timothy Knight Jr., 33, was sending threatening messages containing racial overtones and epithets for several weeks. Investigators did not reveal how these messages were allegedly sent.
Knight was arrested on Monday and charged with 2nd-degree hate crime/aggravated harassment, which is a felony.
Knight was processed and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment.
