LASALLE – Restroom and a shelter for Rotary Park in LaSalle is the next phase in the city’s expansion project. The city approved bids for the two upcoming projects totaling around $260,000. City Engineer Brian Brown says the park’s restrooms will be a hands-free facility. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is funding a portion of the project. City Engineer Brian Brown hopes to get the two projects completed by Labor Day. The two projects at Rotary Park is a part of the major $800,000 expansion project that includes a pollinator garden, an ADA compliant fishing pier, and an 18-hole disc golf course.
MOUNT ZION â With shovels in hand, members of the Mount Zion Public Works Department, Parks and Recreation Commission and local contractors broke ground Wednesday afternoon on the splash pad, Fletcher Parkâs new addition to the 24-acre area.
âIâve got a 9-year-old son who canât wait to come out here,â said Mount Zion Mayor Luke Williams. âHeâs going to be mad that Iâm out here today doing this and heâs not.â
Fletcher Park, located at the south area of the village near Mount Zion Intermediate and the Mount Zion High schools, has been a place of recreation since 2011. In the works for nearly eight years, the splash pad is part of the Fletcher Park Master Plan.

Cahokia Mounds is an important natural, archaeological, and culture landmark that represents the indigenous peoples and landscapes that once made up America s first cities in the Western Hemisphere, Durbin said in a written statement. With this bill to update the site s historical designation, we can take another step forward in recognizing Cahokia Mounds as the cultural asset it is and offer the necessary protections to ensure the site is protected for generations to com
