Knox County hunters contributed 2,497 deer harvested during the 2020-21 season.
The preliminary total for the State of Illinois came in at 162,575, about a six percent increase over the previous year. The total preliminary deer harvest for all seasons compares with a total harvest for all seasons of 153,174 deer in 2019-20.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Rachel Torbert says archery deer hunting numbers were significant.
“Last year, we broke a record for archery season harvest. I believe we broke it by about 17-hundred deer. We broke that record again and this year we broke it by about 7,000 deer so that is a pretty interesting look.”

Clanton: The city has lost a second elected official to the coronavirus pandemic six months after the longtime mayor died of COVID-19. City Council member Sammy Wilson died Thursday while in a hospital where he was being treated for the illness caused by the new virus, WBRC-TV reports. A statement by Mayor Jeff Mims said the town of 8,800 people was thankful for Wilson’s service to the community. Council member Mary Mell Smith called Wilson’s death “a big loss.” “He had that big smile on his face every time you saw him,” she said. Wilson died about six months after Billy Joe Driver, who had served as mayor for 36 years before he died of COVID-19 in July. Mims was elected to replace Driver.

As was anticipated weeks ago, Illinois bowhunters set a record harvest for the second year in a row. That’s the standout number. The overall harvest by Illinois deer hunters (162,575) was up for 2020-21, compared to153,174 in 2019-20.
Harvest during the archery season (75,544) nearly matched the harvest during the two traditional firearm seasons (76,579). Very interesting.
Here is the breakdown by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources:
