(Charles Rex Arbogast/Associated Press) The Illinois Department of Transportation awarded $7 million in support of projects that will upgrade roads to better accommodate local truck traffic. The funding was distributed unevenly across 21 projects, which represent a total investment of $36 million. “Illinois is the country’s transportation hub, with freight activity a cornerstone of the state’s economy,” said IDOT Secretary Omer Osman. “At IDOT, we want our local partners to have the necessary tools to manage traffic safely and spur even more job creation and economic growth.”

(Shutterstock) LIBERTYVILLE, IL An upcoming roadwork project in Libertyville could cause traffic throughout the springtime and into early summer on the Route 176 bridge across the Des Plaines River bridge. In a news alert, the Village of Libertyville announced the Illinois Department of Transportation will begin work on the project on April 19. During the first phase of the project, a temporary traffic signal will be installed, and Route 176 will be limited to one lane. The bike lane across the bridge will also be closed.

18th Street ramp to inbound Dan Ryan closing Monday for 6 weeks

Google Maps The entrance ramp from 18th Street to the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway will close for about six weeks starting Monday. The closure, which takes effect at 5 a.m. Monday, will allow for the construction of a new overhead sign structure and is part of the larger Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Vehicles that need to get on the inbound Dan Ryan will be directed north onto Halsted Street and east onto Roosevelt Road, where they will be able to get to Ruble Street and enter the Dan Ryan via the Taylor Street ramp, IDOT said.
