Authorities say IDOT supervisor from Downers Grove submitted fake doctor s notes Bryan Laughlin Updated 2/3/2021 5:02 PM A man from Downers Grove was charged with five counts of forgery and five counts of wire fraud after an investigation found he submitted fake doctor s notes excusing him from work, authorities said. Bryan Laughlin, an Illinois Department of Transportation operations supervisor, turned himself in Monday and was later released on bond, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police. Illinois State Police started investigating Laughlin May 8, the news release said. An arrest warrant was issued by Judge Daniel P. Guerin last week.

Main St. “We’ve been in contact with IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) and IDOT’s Joe Monroe said to be safe and be smart,” Grafton Mayor Rick Eberlin said. “It’s masks up and keep your distance. If people are fearful, they won’t be there.”

40,300 people in Illinois file for unemployment benefits There were 55,000 fewer initial unemployment claims filed in Illinois than the week before, but the total still exceeds 40,300 new claims, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. There are now 322,700 insured unemployed and 166,100 unemployed independent contractors getting benefits. Pritzker to implement unemployment program updates The Pritzker administration announced it is implementing unemployment program updates Congress approved last year, including benefit overpayment waivers. Illinoisans across the state report they’ve received notice they have to pay back benefits, some even saying they never filed a claim. The Pritzker administration said it is working with federal officials on a process for waiver requests.

Oswego To See Pedestrian Safety Improvements On Route 34

(Shutterstock) OSWEGO, IL The much awaited traffic improvements on Route 34 in downtown Oswego can be seen as early as this spring. On Tuesday, the Oswego Village Board approved a plan with the Illinois Department of Transportation that includes additional and bigger signage and pavement markings along crosswalks on Washington Street from Jefferson Street to Route 31. Currently, flashing beacons and handheld flags alert vehicles to pedestrians in the crosswalk at Main and Washington Streets, and Oswego police patrol the stretch of Washington Street through downtown Oswego to deter speeders, the village website states. However, these safety measures fall short of the Village s goal of a pedestrian-friendly downtown that encourages residents to gather, shop and dine a goal that will likely best be met by traffic signals at key intersections.
