An employee of the Illinois Department of Transportation is accused of writing fake doctor’s notes excusing him from work, according to state police.
Bryan Laughlin, who worked as a supervisor at the Oakbrook Maintenance Yard in Villa Park, turned himself into Oakbrook Terrace police on Jan. 29, Illinois State Police said in a statement.
The state police Division of Internal Investigation was tipped off to the alleged fraud in May 2020, state police said.
In January, a grand jury in DuPage County indicted Laughlin, 39, on five counts of forgery and five counts of wire fraud, state police said.
Laughlin, of Downers Grove, was later released after posting a $10,000 bail.

DesPlaines, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Internal Investigation (DII) conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of Bryan Laughlin, an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Operations Supervisor at the Oakbrook Maintenance Yard, located in Villa Park, IL. Laughlin, a 39 year-old of Downers Grove, IL, has been charged with five counts of Forgery (Class 3 Felony) and five counts of Wire Fraud (Class 3 Felony).
On May 8, 2020, the ISP DII, was requested by the IDOT, Bureau of Investigations Compliance (BIC) office to investigate allegations of Theft by Deception and Forgery against Laughlin. It was alleged Laughlin submitted fraudulent doctor’s notes excusing him from work.
An arctic cold front coming into the Springfield area Saturday will usher in single-digit low temperatures Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Weather models are showing that the Springfield area could get 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday afternoon into the evening, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kirk Huettl. It will be all snow, Huettl said. We shouldn t have to worry about any freezing rain or sleet mixed in.
Saturday night s low will be around zero, with wind chills around minus 15, Huettl added.
There could be micro clippers or upper-level disturbances that could mean periodic chances of light snow into next week, he said.
Work postponed on Illinois 140/111

ALTON The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the lane closures planned on Illinois 140/111 between Kendall Avenue just west of Illinois 3 and Fosterburg Road have been postponed.
The contractor for the project is Keller Construction Inc. of Glen Carbon. New dates for the lane closures will be announced in the near future.

VILLA PARK, Ill An investigation requested by the Illinois Department of Transportation revealed one of its employees committed wire fraud and forgery.
Thirty-nine-year-old Bryan Laughlin, who lives in Downers Grove outside Chicago, has been charged with five counts of forgery and five counts of wire fraud.
He was an operations supervisor at IDOT s Oakbrook Maintenance Yard in Villa Park.
On May 8, 2020, IDOT requested an investigation accusing Laughlin of theft by deception and forgery. His employer suspected he was turning in fake doctor’s notes excusing him from work.
After investigating Laughlin, prosecutors filed charges on Jan. 28., leading to an arrest warrant being issued the very next day.
