PEORIA – For the first time this winter season, accumulating snow fell in Peoria.
And for the first time this winter season, some drivers might have forgotten how to navigate in snow. Or perhaps they just moved here from Florida.
Peoria was at the far-west edge of a system Wednesday morning that dumped snow across central and eastern Illinois.
Officially, one-half inch of snow fell at the Peoria international airport, according to the National Weather Service office in Lincoln. Morton and Roanoke each reported less snow than that.
Little to no snow was reported in western Peoria County. Areas west and south of there, including Galesburg, received nothing, according to the Weather Service.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - The U.S. 60/62 bridge at Cairo reopened on Thursday, December 17.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the contractor was able to finish the pier repairs and temporary shoring, opening the bridge two weeks earlier than anticipated.
It had been closed since November 30.

CARLINVILLE The Illinois Department of Transportation has awarded the District 6 Carlinville Team Section for developing a way to save the state money.
The statewide Innovative Ideas Contest brings IDOT employees together to share creative solutions to common problems. Winners are selected on their ability to save money and improve safety.
While the COVID-19 pandemic delayed this year’s contest typically held in March, it did not diminish its success. Seventy-five ideas were submitted by employees in two tracks. (CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 7,123 new COVID-19 cases in Illinois on Wednesday, with 146 additional deaths reported yesterday. The new statewide totals show 870,600 confirmed cases and 14,655 COVID-19 related deaths. The latest statewide hospitalization report shows 4,793 patients throughout Illinois with COVID-19. Of those, there are 1,045 in Intensive Care Units around the state and 590 other patients are on ventilators.
