Huntley rail crossing repairs starting Wednesday   Updated 5/7/2021 12:28 PM The railway crossing on Route 47 just north of Main Street in Huntley will be closed for repairs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, weather permitting, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. A detour will direct motorists to Route 72, Randall Road and Algonquin Road.   Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

(Google Maps) An Illinois Department of Transportation project to resurface portions of Church Street in Evanston and Skokie is getting underway this week. The repaving work will run from Gross Point Road in Skokie to Dodge Avenue in Evanston. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September. The project involves replacing curbs as needed, installing accessible ADA ramps at intersections, roadway base repair and replacement of asphalt surface from curb to curb along with the roadway striping.

I-24 eastbound lanes to close Thursday night in Johnson & Massac Counties

MASSAC COUNTY (WSIL) The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is warning drivers of a road closure Thursday. Starting Thursday, May 6 at 8 p.m., weather permitting, Interstate 24 will be closed in the eastbound lanes from milepost 16 (Vienna) to milepost 37 (Metropolis). The road is expected to be open by 6 a.m. Friday, May 7. The closure is necessary to facilitate emergency pavement patching at milepost 29. Eastbound I-24 should utilize Illinois 146 to Illinois 145, then Illinois 145 to the US 45/I-24 Metropolis Interchange. Please use alternate routes, reduce speed, be alert to equipment and workers and use extreme caution while traveling through all work zones.

Gov. Pritzker Urges Illinois to ‘Start Seeing Motorcycles’ SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker has proclaimed May as Motorcycle Awareness Month in Illinois, joining the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and motorcycle safety advocates to remind all users of the road to Start Seeing Motorcycles. “We want all riders and motorists, whether they’re traveling a short distance or long distance, to reach their destination safely,” said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. “Warmer temperatures mean that more motorcyclists will be on the road so remember to always be alert for motorcycles and share the road.” The Start Seeing Motorcycles campaign is important because while motorcyclists represent only 3 percent of total vehicle registrations in Illinois, they account for 14 percent of traffic fatalities. There were 1,010 traffic fatalities in Illinois in 2019, – 137 were motorcyclists, and in 2020, there were 1,193 traffic fatalities
