On April 30, the European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted a Resolution 662 to 3-with 26 abstentions-calling for a review of trade relations with Pakistan and ending its eligibility for the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) status. It noted that Pakistan’s enforcement of blasphemy laws particularly in the case of Shagufta Kausar and Shafqat Emmanuel, who have been on death row since 2014 for allegedly sending ‘blasphemous’ text messages shortly after an argument with the accuser.
The EU Parliament “calls on the Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) to immediately review Pakistan’s eligibility for GSP+ status in the light of current events and whether there is sufficient reason to initiate a procedure for the temporary withdrawal of this status and the benefits that come with it”.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have reaffirmed the historical and fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, reviewed all facets of bilateral cooperation and discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen relations of the two brotherly countries in all fields, and agreed to intensify contacts and cooperation between government officials and the private sector in the two countries with the aim of promoting bilateral relations to the benefit of both countries, a joint statement regarding prime minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia on Saturday said.
Cairo: Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have agreed to intensify contacts between government and private sector officials in both allied countries to “elevate their relations to wider prospects,” according to a joint statement marking an official visit by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to the kingdom.
Khan arrived in the kingdom on Friday on an official visit at an invitation from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who had visited Pakistan in 2019.
The Crown Prince and the Pakistani premier this week held talks on ways of boosting relations between the two countries and a range of regional and international issues. “During the talks, they stressed the depth of brotherly, historical relations binding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” the joint statement said.
