The expected victory of a hardline, conservative candidate in the forthcoming Iranian presidential elections could become a hindrance to fulfilling the country’s economic agenda and lead to greater domestic instability.

The largest vessel in Iran’s navy sank on Wednesday in the Gulf of Oman after catching fire in mysterious circumstances.
The Kharg, a 207-metre long support and supply ship, burned for over 20 hours after a blaze broke out but the crew were safely rescued, the Iranian military said.
Named after the island that serves as Iran’s main terminal, the Kharg was on a training mission near the port of Jask when the fire started, state television reported.
