Tehran: A plot to hijack an Iran Air plane flying 100 passengers from Ahwaz to the holy city of Mashhad was foiled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of the Iranian Armed Forces, Iran said on Friday. Iranian Republic News Agency (IRNA) said that the plane made an emergency landing at the central Iranian city of Isfahan and the alleged perpetrator was arrested.
According to IRGC, the Fokker 100 aircraft, flight number 334, took off from Ahwaz airport after a 10-minute delay, at 10.10 pm on Thursday night.

A US civilian contractor died of a heart attack yesterday following a rocket attack on the Ain Al-Assad Air Base which hosts US forces in western Iraq, the Pentagon has revealed.
According to both Iraqi and US sources, at least ten rockets struck the base although there were no reported casualties among the US or coalition forces stationed there. The base, located in the Al-Baghdadi area of Anbar province came under fire around 7:20am local time, said Colonel Wayne Marotto, a spokesperson a coalition spokesperson.

Israel’s security establishment believes Iran will attempt more attacks like Friday’s explosion on an Israeli-owned ship in the Gulf of Oman, and that Israel will have to retaliate.

Wallareported Sunday that security officials have concluded that Friday’s attack was intended as a warning. The attackers “did not intend to sink” the ship, one said, “but rather to tell Israel about their future intentions.” Further attacks are expected to be attempted in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
