Muis said in a statement on Monday (May 10) that it was deeply concerned and saddened by acts of violence against unarmed worshippers after scuffles at the Al-Aqsa mosque, regarded as the third-holiest mosque by Muslims, left more than 300 Palestinians injured with several taken to hospital in critical condition. As people of conscience who believe in the sanctity of human life, we pray for Allah s mercy and safety for the innocent and hope for calm and a quick de-escalation of the situation, Muis said. Our mosques will be reciting a prayer calling for peace in these last days of Ramadan. Muis urges the Muslim community to join in this prayer for peace.

SINGAPORE - Muslims are observing their second Ramadan in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But some essential activities like nightly terawih prayers and porridge distribution returned this year, restoring some familiarity to how the fasting month was marked prior to the pandemic.

Last year, mosques were closed during Ramadan because of Singapore s circuit breaker to stem the spread of Covid-19.
Since they re-opened in June, mosques have been taking extra measures like disinfecting their compounds in between congregational prayers and ensuring that worshippers have a valid booking to facilitate contact tracing. These practices continued throughout Ramadan this year.

SINGAPORE - Six mosques have been closed temporarily after being visited by individuals who tested positive for Covid-19.
They are: Petempatan Melayu Sembawang Mosque, Abdul Hamid Kampung Pasiran Mosque, Hajjah Fatimah Mosque, Al-Falah Mosque, Yusof Ishak Mosque and Al-Iman Mosque.
All six will reopen for Friday prayers on April 30 after undergoing deep cleaning and disinfection.
In a statement on Thursday (April 29), the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) said that the individuals who visited the mosques were asymptomatic and had not shown any signs or symptoms upon entry.
It added that while the mosques already have a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection regime in place, the temporary closure is an important precautionary measure, especially with the development of new Covid-19 virus strains.
