Taoiseach Micheál Martin last night confirmed that the widespread reopening of social life and commercial activity would proceed in May and June, with the further restoration of normal life in prospect for July.
The reopening will take place in stages, beginning next Monday and continuing on the following Mondays during May and into June, when hotels will reopen and outdoor hospitality will return.
In a televised address delivered on the steps of Government Buildings on Thursday evening, Mr Martin said the Cabinet had, as expected, agreed to begin lifting a large number of restrictions – including on travel, personal services, retail, outdoor socialising and religious services – in early May.
The reaction to the Government announcement on Thursday evening from the Restaurant sector is one of disbelief, confusion and frustration, the Restaurants .

There has been mixed reaction to the government announcement regarding a relaxation of restrictions in the coming weeks.
The Restaurants Association of Ireland said theirs is one of disbelief, confusion and frustration with regarding the Government’s decision to permit Hotel & Guesthouse Restaurants to operate as normal for residents by offering Indoor Dining options from the proposed date of Thursday 2nd June whilst restricting Independent Restaurants, Coffee shops and Gastro pubs to outdoor dining only from the 7th June.

The group says it’s unfair that their customers will only be allowed to dine outdoors from early June, while hotel guests can eat and drink indoors.
