SC appointed panel on farms laws holds discussions with industry

New Delhi, Feb 9 : The expert committee, appointed by the Supreme Court to facilitate discussions on the three farm laws, on Tuesday held meetings with 18 stakeholders, including representatives from various industries.
Committee member, Dr Pramod Joshi told IANS that in the meeting, which was also attended by other panel members, Ashok Gulati and Anil Ghanwat, representatives from the private sector also gave their suggestions. This was the seventh meeting of the committee.
In a statement after the talks, the committee said that they held discussions, via video conferencing, with members of various agro-processing industries, agro-processing cooperatives and purchase agencies on Tuesday.

In the case of import of dairy products, the minister said it declined in both volume and value terms in the April-October period of the current financial year 2020-21.

New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) India s export of dairy products has declined 3.2 percent in rupee terms during the April-October 2020 period due to COVID-19 pandemic, but steps are being taken to help recover from the loss, the government told Parliament on Friday.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Sajeev Kumar Balyan said the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the government are implementing various programmes to recover from the losses by the dairy industry .
APEDA opens regional office in Chennai
February 04, 2021 The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has opened a regional office in Chennai.
The facility in the premises of the Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board was jointly inaugurated by Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Production Commissioner and M Angamuthu, Chairman of APEDA.
APEDA has provided financial assistance to the State department of Agriculture and Marketing for setting up of common infrastructure facility (cold storage, sorting and grading facility) at Dindigul, Villupuram and Coimbatore districts to facilitate exports of fresh vegetables.
APEDA has set up a perishable cargo centre at the Chennai airport and a walk-in type cold storage at Tiruchirapalli airport. It has also provided financial assistance for modernisation/ up- gradation of the Veterinary College Research Institute Laboratory at Chennai and Namakkal for testing of animal and poultry pro
The country s cereals exports have increased by about 53 per cent to Rs 49,832 cr during April-December 2020 on an year-on-year basis, according to the data of commerce ministry. Basmati rice exports too grew by 5.31 per cent to Rs 22,038 crore while the non-basmati segment witnessed a spike in exports by 122.61 per cent to Rs 22,856 crore, the ministry said in a statement. Wheat exports rose to Rs 1,870 crore, while the outbound shipments of other cereals like millet and maize grew by 177 per cent to Rs 3,067 crore, it added. Cereals have a share of 48.61 per cent in the total exports under the APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) basket, it said.

Bangladesh is missing out on the big bucks India is raking in exporting a snack as ubiquitous here as popcorn is in the West.
Poppadom, or papor as it is called in Bangla, is a very thin oil-fried crisp in the shape of a flatbread made from a mixture of powdered green and black grams and grass pea.
The export of poppadom, which is mass produced in Dinajpur, is yet to see a success.
However, it is exported by India to 131 markets, the largest being the United Kingdom.
