Utica, N.Y. - Utica Police are investigating two separate shootings almost two hours apart Saturday afternoon. One of them is fatal, the second has landed a man in grave condition.
Police say they were called to 100 Rutger St. around 1:45 Saturday afternoon for the report of shots fired.
One male victim was found shot and died from his wounds.
The increase in violence in the City of Utica is nothing new, but over the holiday weekend it reached a new level of concern. A 16-year-old girl was struck by gunfire following a shooting in the city and is now sedated following surgery.
Utica Police first reported that officers were called to the intersection of Schuyler Street and Knox Street for a shooting investigation on Monday at around 2PM. Officials say when they arrived on scene they located a young girl who had suffered a gunshot wound to her chest.
The young girl, only 16-year-old, was transported immediately to St. Elizabeth Hospital to undergo emergency surgery. Police announced just after 5:30PM Monday that she was out of surgery and sedated. Officials believe a more comprehensive idea of her condition will be known later today.

Utica Police Investigating Seymour Avenue Shooting
(Utica, NY) Utica Police are investigating a shooting incident that happened on the 1500 block of Seymour Avenue.
Police say units were called to that location just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a male who had reportedly been struck by gunfire.
When officers arrived on the scene they found the man had been shot once in the leg. Officials say he was eventually transported to a local hospital for treatment and at this time his injuries are considered not to be life-threatening.
Utica Police remained on scene for several hours conducting their investigation and they’re asking anyone with information to contact them. There are a number of ways you can assist the Utica Police Major Crimes Unit in this particular investigation and other shooting incidents.
