Two Hughesville residents are facing felony charges for allegedly forcing their way into an apartment and one of them assaulting the apartment’s resident on August 6 in Sweet Springs.
According to a police report, the resident said she was woken from sleep to loud banging on her door. She said as soon as she attempted to open the door, it was forced open, knocking her backwards. The victim identified Jodie Cornine as the woman who ran through the door and began assaulting her. According to the victim, Michael Cornine, the father of Jodie Cornine, was blocking the doorway, sealing her only access to safety. Michael Cornine was also reportedly in possession of a large pistol.

A Plea/Trial setting is scheduled in the case of a Sedalia man whose conviction was set aside last year.
Coupled with charges that arose while being incarcerated, a Sedalia man, who changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on July 10 to two counts of a sex-related felony involving a juvenile and assault of law enforcement in Saline County, was sentenced to spend a total of more than three decades in state prison on Monday, September 11.
According to online court documents, Jerome Lee Williams II, now 23 years old, pleaded guilty to two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Statutory Sodomy or Attempted Statutory Sodomy– Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a person less than 12 years old. On each count, court documents say Williams was ordered to be remanded to the Department of Corrections for 25 years, with the sentences to run concurrently. Those convictions were set aside on April 19, 2020.
