OPPO plans pop-up camera that can shoot in both directions
February 3, 2021
OPPO handsets are no strangers to pop-up cameras. In fact, the company has some interesting Reno designs to show, though the trend of pop-up cameras is almost over but OPPO thinks otherwise. According to a new report, the Chinese OEM could be working on a pop-up camera that can click photos and record videos on both sides. This would probably be a pop-up camera with mirrors.
Around October last year, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) released a patent for “Photographing module, installation drive assembly and mobile terminal” applied by OPPO. This revealed that OPPO intends to use light path deflecting mirror – something Xiaomi is also experimenting with – to enable the camera to click on both sides. The difference here is that OPPO will be using a pair of mirrors as opposed to one that Xiaomi is contemplating.

A patent suggests that Samsung is working on a novel rotating pop-up camera system for a future smartphone.
The design allows the rear camera array to twist and rise to face the user when shooting selfies.
It’s unclear if this design will be used on a forthcoming consumer smartphone.
Samsung has invested in some pretty crazy camera designs in the past. The Galaxy A80 and its flipping camera come to mind. Now, the firm is seemingly exploring another design that could find itself on a future Galaxy model.
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (“
EUIPO”) and Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (“
OECD”) recently published a Report
1 on counterfeit pharmaceuticals based on global customs seizure data from 2014 to 2016. Counterfeit pharmaceuticals are traded medicinal products that infringe trade marks and include fake antibiotics, lifestyle treatments and pain killers. The Report outlines the significant implications of this ever-growing illegal industry on governments, companies and citizens and provides policy makers with evidence of the threat that this illicit activity poses to the value of pharmaceutical companies’ intellectual property rights (“IPR”) and to the health of its citizens. The hope is that officials across the globe will use the empirical evidence within the Report to formulate a new and improved strategy to combat this hazardous trade.

The bezel-less design of Xiaomi series Mi MIX is famous. Unfortunately, in a very long time the company did not release a new design. In the last few months, it has patented a significant range of fully-screen devices. In recent days, with its special slider display implementation, another new concept of Xiaomi has appeared with the all screen designs mixrure.
Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software filed this patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) and the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in compliance with its publication. On 29 October 2020, it was accepted and issued.

Andrei Iancu’s departure last week marked the end of a turbulent three year-tenure at the US Trademark and Patent Office.
In his farewell address at a US Chamber of Commerce event, Iancu outlined his achievements, declaring that his tenure had delivered a “pro-innovation” culture.
“I said that we must reclaim our nation’s IP leadership and, to do so, we must focus on two high-level issues: first, creating a new, pro-innovation, pro-IP dialogue. And, second, balancing our systems and increasing the reliability of the patent grant. This is precisely what we have done,” he said.
