Besides being one of the best defensive catchers in MLB during the 1980s, Scioscia won two World Series titles as a player (’81 and ‘88) with the Dodgers and one as manager of the Angels (2002). Scioscia added to his impressive resume recently by being named manager of Team USA. Scioscia hopes to guide the team to a berth in the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer. Winning the gold medal is in Scioscia’s sites. “It’s a great feeling [to be named manager of Team USA],” Scioscia said via telephone. “Everyone who had the opportunity before me has the same sentiment of putting [on] that jersey that says ‘USA.’ I know everyone connected this year will have that same sentiment. I’m excited about it. It’s something I’m looking forward to.
