Frankfurt Airport commences large-scale testing campaign

In the first week of January, a large-scale Corona testing campaign was conducted at Frankfurt Airport by the three major air cargo handling companies FCS Frankfurt Cargo Services, LUG aircargo handling and Perishable Center Frankfurt (PCF). A total of around 1,500 employees of the companies, which together handle around 40 percent of the air freight at Frankfurt Airport, was tested. Over several days, the Bensheim-based company Chemlab conducted the tests on site. The aim of the measure is to ensure even better protection of the workforce against infection in the company. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the personnel involved in cargo handling is experiencing a major challenge. Despite the cancellation of the biggest part of passenger flights, Frankfurt Airport recently handled far more cargo than in the previous year. WFS wins Milan handling contract for Asiana Cargo Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has won the handling contract for Asiana Airlines’ freighter services at Milan-Malpensa Airport. The airline operates three Boeing 747 freighter flights a week from the Italian airport to Seoul. WFS expects to handle some 15,000 tonnes of cargo annually for Asiana. The new contract is a further justification of WFS’ decision to invest in a new cargo terminal at the airport, which has the capacity to handle over 47,000 tonnes a year. Opened two years ago, it is the most modern cargo handling facility at Milan-Malpensa and already serves other leading international airline customers.
