Cyclone Yaas: Telecom tower body braces up to meet the eventuality

Deploys teams in Odisha and West Bengal for restoring infra in case of the cyclone impact.
The telecom tower and infrastructure providers are bracing up for the impact of cyclone Yaas, which is likely to make landfall on Wednesday, with additional personnel and equipment on standby.
Additional telecom teams have been deployed for restoring the telecom connectivity, in case of impact, with 951 staff for West Bengal and over 500 for Odisha. More than 1,800 spare batteries have also been arranged for West Bengal and close to 700 for Odisha, and ensured adequate stock of diesel and diesel generator (DG) sets, Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) said in release.

Telecom infrastructure providers, along with service providers, have taken necessary steps such as readiness of Cell on Wheels (CoWs), arrangement of spare batteries, adequate amount of diesel and DG (Diesel Generator) sets and ramping up of teams to mitigate the impact of cyclone ‘Yaas’, the Tower & Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) said on Tuesday.
‘Yaas’ is likely to make a landfall near Balasore in north Odisha at a speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph, around noon on May 26.

After some miscreants damaged mobile network towers in Haryana attributing COVID-19 fatalities to the testing of 5G towers, Haryana Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan asked the police on Thursday to “safeguard telecom infrastructure” and “take strict, coercive, and immediate action against any miscreant spreading such misleading rumours.”
