On Jan. 1, Taiwan implemented market access changes for imports of U.S. beef and pork. For U.S. beef, the 30-month cattle age limit was eliminated, so Taiwan now accepts beef from U.S. cattle of all ages. For U.S. pork, Taiwan established maximum residue limits (MRLs) for ractopamine residues, easing the zero-tolerance policy previously in place.
Joel Haggard, U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) senior vice president for the Asia Pacific, pointed out that Taiwan is already a major destination for U.S. beef, with annual exports exceeding $500 million. It is currently the sixth largest market for U.S. beef, Haggard added.

U.S. Lamb s Retail Presence Expanding in Japan
Monday Jan 25th, 2021 Since Japan reopened to U.S. lamb in 2018, it has been featured mostly in high-end dining establishments. But with COVID-19 slowing foodservice operations, Japanese consumers are seeking more high-quality meat options at retail that they can prepare at home. This includes U.S. lamb, which is available at high-end retail establishments such as Queen s Isetan, Hankyu and Tokyu Presse. Boneless round cuts are the best-selling U.S. lamb items at retail, as these cuts are often marinated, sliced and grilled said Tatsuru Tom Kasatani, U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) senior marketing manager in Japan. Some retailers are also featuring Frenched rack of lamb as a special occasion item.
