BASF has detected the presence of two genetically engineered traits in canola seed samples taken from BASF’s hybrid seed production fields in the United States. These events are designed to increase Omega-3 fatty acid content in the seed oil for use in aquaculture and human foods. While the detected events, LBFLFK or BASF-Cargill Omega-3 and NS-B50027-4, owned by Nuseed, are approved for cultivation in the United States, they have not yet received approval in key export countries.

“The ad campaign strives to increase consumer acceptance and industry growth through education and promotion,” says NBB Director of Communications Kaleb Little. “Biodiesel is better and cleaner than petroleum diesel with proven environmental, health, and economic benefits and it is ready to use now. There are a million reasons to use biodiesel, but we have broken it down to the most basic benefits for this effort.”
Funded by the United Soybean Board, U.S. Canola Association, and a dozen Qualified State Soybean Boards, this educational campaign allows NBB to reach an audience unfamiliar with agriculture and the biodiesel and renewable diesel industry, as a major component includes targeted advertising in the mid-Atlantic, Washington D.C., and California regions.

In September, NBB launched a digital advertising campaign aimed at key decision makers on the benefits of these advanced fuels. The ad campaign focused on consumer acceptance with the promotion of biodiesel being cleaner than petroleum diesel. The campaign was supported by the United Soybean Board, US Canola Association, and a dozen Qualified State Soybean Boards.
These messages and efforts continued with the start of the new year. Alan Weber is a senior economist with the National Biodiesel Board. During NAFB’s Trade Talk program, Weber said biodiesel offers proven environmental, health, and economic benefits.
