INDIANAPOLIS As the federal government works to make COVID-19 vaccines available to all Americans, lawmakers in more than 40 states have introduced legislation that would forbid mandates requiring people get vaccinated. Often advanced by vaccine skeptics and sponsored by Republicans, most seek to prohibit businesses from requiring employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus or limit school and daycare vaccination entry requirements.

2019 and 2020 EEO-1 Component 1 Filing Site Is Now Open Tuesday, April 27, 2021 After the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) delayed the collection of 2019 EEO-1 Component 1 data, April 26, 2021, now marks the opening of the 2019 and 2020 EEO-1 Component 1 filing site. The EEOC had extended the data collection period from the usual 10 weeks to 12 weeks, resulting in a July 19, 2021, filing deadline. Previous filers will receive their companies’ annual notification letters by U.S. mail. Each letter will include the company ID and passcode, which are required to create a new account in the “EEO-1 Component Online Filing System.” All companies will need to create accounts in the EEO-1 Component 1 Online Filing System.

The deadline for submitting both the 2019 and 2020 EEO-1 Component 1 data is Monday, July 19, 2021. Recognizing the continuing differential impacts of the pandemic on workplaces nationwide and the requirement to submit two years of EEO-1 Component 1 data, the EEOC is extending the data collection period this year from 10 weeks to 12 weeks to provide employers additional time to file. Employers should begin preparing to submit data in anticipation of the July 19th filing deadline.

Maggiano s Little Italy settles claims of unpaid pre-shift work

Dive Brief: Maggiano s Little Italy restaurant, which is part of group of restaurants that includes Chili s Grill & Bar, has agreed to pay $116,308 in back wages to 82 workers to settle charges that it failed to pay the employees for pre-work shift activity, the U.S. Department of Labor announced April 12. Federal investigators found that the Philadelphia restaurant required workers to attend a 15- to 30-minute meeting before the beginning of their scheduled work shift and failed to pay the required federal minimum wage. When workers put in more than 40 hours, overtime pay requirements were triggered. The restaurant was also assessed a civil money penalty of $68,060 because investigators determined the violation was willful.
