The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) is elated by the improved global ranking of the Philippines in terms of mobile internet speed but said there is more that needed to be done to achieve world-class service.
ARTA Director-General Jeremiah Belgica made the statement after Ookla, a global leader in mobile and broadband intelligence, reported that the Philippines lept from 111th to 86th spot in January 2021 from the same period last year.
In a statement, Belgica said he was over the moon when he heard of the report that the Philippines broke Ookla’s top 100.
“I am elated to learn of the news of the significant leap in the world ranking of internet speed by the Philippines,” he said.

Published February 20, 2021 10:32am The Philippines climbed 10 spots to 86th in the global mobile internet speed rankings in January this year, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said Saturday. Citing a report from internet access performance metrics provider Ookla, the DICT said the country’s rise to the 86th spot is an improvement from its 111th rank in the same period in 2020. Ookla s speed test analysis by covers 140 countries. Data from the internet metrics provider showed Philippine telcos in particular, the DICT said the country’s fixed broadband average download speed was recorded at 32.73 Mbps (megabits per second).

We wish that other LGUs, which until now didn t have a one-stop shop for permitting concerns in their respective municipal or city halls, will also comply as soon as possible. By doing so, we can also extend to our customers the improvements in our call, SMS and browsing service that we have implemented in other areas of the country,” explained Atty. The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) has called out Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) for failure to comply with the ease of doing business directives.
ARTA Director General Jeremiah Belgica called out these agencies after conducting surprise inspections at the offices of these agencies to monitor compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 11032 and the President’s mandate against long queues and backlogs in all government agencies.
Belgica pointed out that while LTFRB and BAI have submitted to ARTA their updated Citizen’s Charter, both have failed to post them at their main entrance or at the most conspicuous place as mandated under Section 6 of R.A. 11032.
