Kim Francois, 22, was the typical young adult – working, going to the gym, eating well and travelling.
That was until she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia four months ago.
Cancerresearchuk.org says acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is a type of blood cancer that starts from young white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow. It added that adults and children can get it, but it is most often diagnosed in younger people. Chemotherapy is the main treatment and some people need to have a stem cell transplant, it said.
Republic Bank donates Isopod to NCRHA

Republic Bank has donated an individual patient isolation system known as an Isopod to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) as part of its continuing support in the fight against covid19. The bank’s executive director handed over the equipment to NCRHA CEO Davlin Thomas on Wednesday last week.
In a release, Republic Bank said the Isopod helps transport patients who have an infectious disease. This one was designed and manufactured locally by Nicholas Laing, with the support and input from more than 30 doctors from all regional health authorities.

Cancer patient Kim Francois, 22, is thankful for the “outpouring of overwhelming support” from the public after Newsday highlighted her illness.
It’s been four months since she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a form of blood cancer.
She has shared her story on social media, which has garnered thousands of views, likes and shares. She also started a GoFundMe page to raise US$50,000 for a stem cell transplant.
She is currently at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Champ Fleurs.
On Monday, Newsday published an article about her experience thus far.
She recalled constantly feeling unwell in September 2020, which worried her friends and family. She also lost a lot of weight, which caused remarks from people including, “I had HIV/AIDS, I throw away child and that is why I am sick.
