The death of Hansel Leon, 77, resonated through the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) and the country as a whole.
He was the first covid19 fatality in TT and, according to Davlin Thomas, CEO of the NCRHA, it was difficult for everyone involved.
Leon died on March 25, 2020 at the Couva Hospital, 12 days after he was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital with flu-like symptoms.

NCRHA doctors do major heart procedure, first in region

A team of doctors, led by head cardiologist Fareed Ali, have successfully done the Caribbean’s first-ever removal of a complex implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), otherwise known as a pacemaker.
In a release on Friday, the North Central Regional Health authority (NCHRA) said the high-risk procedure was done by a multidisciplinary team of doctors at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope.
It said the team also included doctors specialised in chest, vessel, and general surgery, along with radiologists and anaesthesiologists.

LYNETTE Granny Luces was fondly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during the funeral service of the beloved long-distance runner at the Mt D Or Seventh Adventist Church, on Thursday.
Luces, an avid long-distance TT runner, was 93. Luces, who suffered a stroke in October, died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on February 18.
Luces is popularly known for participating and completing long-distance races throughout TT and the world. Luces got involved in the sport in her mid-fifties, making her marathon debut in 1984. Luces received the Hummingbird Medal Gold in 2013.
