New phone scam posing as police By: Matt Nagy ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office has reported a new phone scam in which scammers will appear on people’s caller ID under the sheriff office’s name and number to request payment from recipients. Police say the scammers will give a number of reasons for people to believe that they owe money to the sheriff’s office in the form of gift cards. Officials want everyone to know that police will never contact you in this fashion and will never ask for gift card information. If you have any information on scammers using this method, call the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office at 574-891-2100.

Two people sent to the hospital after a car crash By: Matt Nagy ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office released information for a crash that was reported at 11:28 a.m. on Wednesday on SR 15, south of U.S. 6, that sent both drivers to the hospital. Police say one vehicle, traveling north on SR 15, was stopped in traffic before being rear-ended by another northbound vehicle. Both drivers were transported to Goshen General Hospital for injuries that are not life threatening. The driver that initiated the crash was cited for following too closely, police say. Police say that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.

Two injured in a car crash By: Matt Nagy ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 12:38 p.m. on Tuesday for a three-vehicle crash at the intersection CR 17 and CR 142 which left two of the drivers injured. Police say a driver travelling north on CR 17 was stopped at the intersection before driving into the path of another vehicle travelling west on CR 142. After the two vehicles collided, the northbound vehicle crashed into another car that was stopped and facing south on CR 17, police say. That southbound driver was transported to Goshen Hospital for neck pain.
