COVID-19 cases continue to rise in LA County, highest numbers seen since February By Alexi Chidbachian COVID continues relentless spread In LA County A relentless surge of COVID-19 cases continued Thursday in Los Angeles County as another 2,700 cases were reported, with the percentage of infections occurring among fully vaccinated residents steadily rising. LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles County Health Department reported 2,767 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, up 80% from last week and the highest number since February. They also reported an additional 13 deaths.  Case rates haven’t been this high since February. Health officials blame the highly infectious Delta variant for the recent surge in COVID-19 as well as the number of unvaccinated people.

About a year into the pandemic, the California Labor Commissioner recently imposed fines on a Los Angeles fast food franchisee.  In doing so, the commissioner determined that the franchisee fired four employees after the employees reported they feared exposure to COVID-19 due to unsafe working conditions.  According to a press release, before their terminations, the employees reported their concerns to their employer and to the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the Los Angeles County Health Department.  The employees had also participated in strikes related to the safety of their working

LA County says Manhattan Beach is violating outdoor dining ban

Photo     The City of Manhattan Beach’s attempt to help local restaurants by repurposing outdoor dining decks into city-controlled, public seating has come under direct fire from Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis.  Davis sent a letter to City Manager Bruce Moe that said the city’s repurposing of the dining decks “violates both the letter and the spirit” of the Safer At Home public health order issued by the County on December 9. Davis said the ban on outdoor dining is an essential part of the effort to limit gatherings.
