Gadsden dentist arrested on sex abuse, rape, sodomy charges

A Gadsden dentist was arrested this morning on several sex crime charges.
Sgt. Marcus Hill of Gadsden police said Joseph Clarence Cox, 41, has been charged with sexual abuse, rape, and sodomy. He was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
Hill said search warrants were executed at his office, Gadsden Dental, on Rainbow Drive, and at his home. A sign on the door told patients the office was closed.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Anthony Devine at (256) 549-4653.
According to court records, Cox pleaded guilty in 2013 to two counts of misdemeanor harassment, was sentenced to 90 days suspended sentence and paid a $500 fine. A former worker in Cox’s office in DeKalb County told police she was fired after she turned down his advances, which included suggestive comments and spanking her.
An incident that unfolded Monday morning on U.S. Highway 431 north of Attalla ended without injury, according to Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton.
A woman and her husband were at CN Fuels on U.S. 431 at about 10 a.m. when the woman came to believe there was someone in the back of the Nissan Armada SUV they were in, and she fired shots into the back of the vehicle, ECSO Public Information Officer Tammy Bean said.
Nothing was hit and no one was injured, but the woman s husband jumped out of the vehicle and ran. Someone at the gas station called the sheriff s office, and the woman led deputies on a brief high-speed chase, according to Bean. She stopped soon afterward and was arrested.
