Smash victim thanks kind-hearted benefactors for help airlifting her to Colombia Spread the love After sustaining multiple fractures to her left leg and arm in a serious road accident, Leidy Paola Galvis Salazar is counting her lucky stars and thanking some benevolent people for supporting her family’s GoFundMe efforts to airlift her to Colombia for urgent medical attention. One such organisation is the Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF), which came on board to cover the outstanding expense of more than US$12,000 in order to meet the total US$23,000 cost which enabled Galvis to be airlifted last Thursday. Ayre Group spokeswoman Jamilla Kirwan said when the Foundation learned of Salazar’s urgent need, the decision was quickly taken to assist the family who had already raised a little over US$10,000.

MSJMC to be renamed after Sir Lester today Spread the love One of the country’s national heroes will again be cemented into history today when the public hospital is renamed in his honour. Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) will officially be renamed the Sir Lester Bird Mount St John’s Medical Centre. Government first declared its intentions to name the hospital after the former athlete and prime minister in 2018. It reiterated that again in January this year during Governor General Sir Rodney Williams’ delivery of the Throne Speech. Since the announcement, there has been a lot of public discussion as residents queried why the hospital would be named after a politician instead of a medical practitioner, like the late Sir Prince Ramsey.

Cyclist hospitalised following weekend crash during federation’s first road race Spread the love Cyclist Richard Lam was hospitalised on Sunday with broken ribs and other injuries following a crash during the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation’s (ABCF) first road race of the 2021 domestic season. According to reports, Lam, who was jostling with other riders at the head of the race, hit a deep pothole just outside Bethesda village and was flung from his bike as a result. The rider was taken to the Mount St John’s Medical Center with broken ribs and a suspected broken collar bone.
