Johnson County COVID-19 update: 59 cases reported Wednesday

Iowa City Press-Citizen At 10 a.m. Thursday, Iowa reported another 1,532 cases of COVID-19 and 19 additional COVID-19-related deaths since the state s tally at 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to Coronavirus.Iowa.gov. Officials report a total of 4,251 people with COVID-19 have died from the disease across the state, including 49 in Johnson County. A pair of deaths reported last week were the first reported here since Dec. 22. The first death here was reported April 4. A total of 1,410,318 Iowans have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus, which causes the disease, including 67,780 in Johnson County. A total of 301,442 have tested positive in Iowa. The state has reported a total of 11,878 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Johnson County, an increase of 59 since 10 a.m. Wednesday.

In a press release, The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) announced that liquor sales for the month of December reached $42.8 million. This represents a record number for liquor sales in a single month and is an increase of 18.48% over December 2019 sales of $36.1 million. December 2020 was the highest grossing month for liquor sales in ABD history. Though ABD has experienced increased liquor sales throughout the fiscal year, the revenue in December far surpassed previous months, said Leisa Bertram, ABD’s Comptroller.
