Many golfers will spend years searching for that elusive hole-in-one. One Hillcrest Academy student didn’t have to look far. On May 11th at the Kalona Golf Course, Raven sophomore Jace Rempel found his, on hole eight, a 163-yard par three that runs east to west along the southern boundary of the property. He spoke this week with KCII sports about the shot. “Previous to that hole I had shot a bogey or double bogey on the par five. I was the last to shoot and the dude before me put his within five feet so I was just thinking I had to put mine closer than that. Basically, I saw it going in a straight line and was hoping it had enough distance to get there. It bounced probably five or six feet in front of the hole and to the left and then it rolled right in. I was overjoyed. Everyone was really happy for me. It felt good.”
Maryland paid Northwestern a visit Wednesday evening, with the Wildcats in search of back-to-back wins for the first time since December 2020. NU entered the contest in a crowded race for tournament seeding among the Big Ten’s bottom four teams, jockeying for position with Minnesota, Penn State and Nebraska.
The Cats found a way to win, getting a much-needed 60-55 victory over the Terrapins, a second consecutive takedown victory over the Terrapins, a second consecutive takedown of a likely NCAA Tournament team.
The Terrapins announced their arrival with an authoritative 9-0 run to open the ballgame, broken only by junior forward Pete Nance’s layup 4:41 into the first half. Nance’s bucket kicked off an 8-0 rebuttal from NU, as redshirt sophomore guard Chase Audige tallied five early points. The Cats trailed by just a point at the halfway mark of the first half despite junior forward and starter Miller Kopp missing his first five shots from the field.
