Many golfers will spend years searching for that elusive hole-in-one. One Hillcrest Academy student didn’t have to look far. On May 11th at the Kalona Golf Course, Raven sophomore Jace Rempel found his, on hole eight, a 163-yard par three that runs east to west along the southern boundary of the property. He spoke this week with KCII sports about the shot. “Previous to that hole I had shot a bogey or double bogey on the par five. I was the last to shoot and the dude before me put his within five feet so I was just thinking I had to put mine closer than that. Basically, I saw it going in a straight line and was hoping it had enough distance to get there. It bounced probably five or six feet in front of the hole and to the left and then it rolled right in. I was overjoyed. Everyone was really happy for me. It felt good.”

It was the kickoff to the spring golf season Thursday at the Kalona Golf Course when the Hillcrest Ravens hosted the Highland Huskies for a boys golf dual. The Ravens came away with the Southeast Iowa Superconference dual win 226-259. Hillcrest was led by meet medalist Luke Schrock with his low round of 46. He spoke after the meet about his day. “It feels pretty good to be medalist. I was a little nervous at the beginning but that wore off and then it was just like practice. My putting was the best it has been all year tonight. I birdied nine, took four iron off the tee instead of driver, ended up about 137 yards out, put it close and made the putt. It’s always great to end on a birdie. Getting the team win today feels great and is a good start to the season.”
