A day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reminding him about the commitment of the coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on the Common Minimum Program (CMP), the Shiv Sena discarded any possibility of a rift and clarified that the letter would bring forth matters which were on the backtrack due to pandemic.
Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said on Saturday that Ms. Gandhi is a chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and has also contributed to the formation of the State government.

Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 18 (ANI): Amid the ongoing farmers agitation in the country, Union Minister Smriti Irani on Friday said the parties which were members of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) were misguiding farmers about the three agriculture laws.
Speaking at a Kisan Sammelan (farmers conference) in Uttar Pradesh s Meerut, Irani said the leaders opposing the farm laws never worked for the farmers welfare and questioned what was so objectionable in the laws that Congress and other UPA supporters are protesting against them. It is for the first time in their lifetime that poor farmers have a Pradhan Sevak who is providing them with a health cover of Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat, and made arrangements for cooking gas cylinders for them. Protesting farmers groups accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “attacking” them in his speech on Friday, adding that his claims on minimum support prices (MSP) were “lies”. With regard to the ongoing Supreme Court case, farm leaders have not yet made any firm decision on whether to implead themselves as proposed by the court.
