Assam EVM row: Presiding officer suspended; re-poll ordered by EC
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday said that he is confident of Bharatiya Janata Party-led government retaining the power in the state for the second consecutive term.
While talking to the media, Sonowal, who is seeking re-election from the world s largest river island Majuli in eastern Assam, said that the trends of the counting of votes across the state clearly suggested that the BJP is coming back to power for the second term.
The 59-years-old saffron party leader said that the BJP in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) would form the government.

The ruling Trinamool Congress was ahead of the BJP in the keenly watched state of West Bengal, while the saffron party-led NDA was leading in Assam and the DMK in Tamil Nadu, according to latest trends for Assembly polls.
In Kerala, the ruling LDF is leading in 88 of the 140 Assembly constituencies while the opposition Congress-headed UDF was ahead in 50 segments.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was leading by 3,351 votes in his home turf against his nearest rival C Raghunathan of the Congress, according to Election Commission figures.

Assam Election Result 2021: The AIUDF of Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi is leading in as many as 16 assembly constituencies where counting of votes is still underway. According to the Election Commission data, AIUDF has won 11 seats and is leading in 5 other seats.
The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) had contested the 2021 election is alliance with the Congress and other parties. The AIUDF had won a total of 13 seats in 2016 election when it fought the polls alone. In 2011 state polls, the AIUDF had won 18 seats – again contesting alone.

Guwahati, May 3 : The ruling BJP-led NDA returned to power in Assam for the second consecutive term as the Mitrajot secured 68 seats in the 126-member assembly, election officials said on Sunday midnight.
According to the latest tally of the Election Commission results late on Sunday night, of the total of 126 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has so far won 53 seats, and leading in six seats while its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won nine seats and the United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) won six seats.
