The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won a second consecutive term in Assam, is likely to take a decision on naming the chief minister of the north-eastern state, following a meeting of the newly-elected party MLAs at Library Auditorium in Guwahati on Sunday, sources said. However, there are indications that the party might hand Himanta Biswa Sarma the top role in the state.
After securing a re-run in Assam last week, the BJP has been holding discussions about the chief ministerial face.

Announcing Sarma s name, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the outgoing Chief Minister Sarbananada Sonowal proposed Sarma s name as the leader of the BJP s legislature party and others supported it.

Guwahati, May 9 : The BJP s lead strategist in northeastern states and senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had played significant role in forming saffron party led governments in three other northeastern states - Tripura, Manipur and Arunachal will take charge as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam on Monday.
Raj Bhavan officials said that Governor Jagdish Mukhi would administer the oath of office to the Chief Minister designate Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday noon at the famous Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
