The McNair Program sets underrepresented students on the path to academic careers. But the program is an overlooked resource. At U.S. business schools, underrepresented minorities account for only a small number of faculty. According to AACSB’s 2020 Business School Data Guide, 3.9 percent of full-time business faculty are Black, 2.8 percent are Hispanic, and .3 percent are Native American. If the business school community wants to improve this persistently low percentage, then we must find ways to encourage more underrepresented students to enter the academic pipeline. One initiative that helps fulfill this goal is the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. Established in 1989 by the United States Department of Education, the McNair Program is one of eight Federal TRIO Programs aimed at providing services to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Poor sleep may impact academic achievement for children in disinvested neighborhoods

A new longitudinal study examined the relation between sleep, classroom behavior, and academic achievement scores among primarily Black children growing up in historically disinvested neighborhoods. Disinvested refers to neighborhoods in which public and private funding, city services, or other necessary resources have been denied or withheld, and which are often segregated along racial and economic lines as a result. The findings showed that sleep is related to observed classroom behavior and may predict future academic achievement.

According to documents filed in the federal court of the Southern District of New York, Andrew’s attorneys have requested a modification of the bail conditions imposed by the court on April 27. Andrew is co-founder of Democracy Builders, which bought the campus of Marlboro College last year. “Under the terms of his release, Mr. Andrew must remain within the District of Vermont, where he currently resides, except for attorney visits and court appearances,” wrote Edward Y. Kim, of Krieger Kim & Lewin, in the modification request. “Mr. Andrew, who has been fully compliant with the terms of his release, intends to relocate his family to a home in Rhode Island and anticipates that such a move will require several trips between Vermont and Rhode

Paxton Warns Department of Education Against Critical Race Theory Get our free mobile app Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton signed his name to two letters sent to the United States Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona. One letter was in partnership with the America First Policy Institute along with the Texas Public Policy Foundation. The other letter was a coalition of 20 state attorneys general from across the United States. At issue is concern over the spread and funding of Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project which is spreading in schools across Texas and the United States. The two projects are ideologically driven and factually inaccurate according to the Texas Attorney General and a press release that was sent out by office on Friday.
