The Mumbai Police on October 8 busted a “TRP scam”, whereby Television Rating Points (TRPs) were allegedly being manipulated. Republic TV, owned by Arnab Goswami, has been named in the scam. Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema were also among those allegedly indulging in the fraudulent activities.
The scam came to light when ratings agency BARC filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels were rigging TRP numbers. Hansa had been tasked with installing BARC barometers, which record viewership data.

TRP scam: Former BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta sent to judicial custody for 14 days

Former CEO of rating agency BARC
Partho Dasgupta has been sent to a 14-day-long judicial custody in the fake Television Rating Points (TRP) case. He was arrested from Pune on December 17.
Dasgupta, who was produced before the court in
Mumbai earlier today (December 30), also filed a bail application.
His lawyer, Kamlesh Ghumre, argued that Dasgupta was the CEO of
BARC but there was a board of directors and a disciplinary committee above him, adding that he could not have manipulated the rating system.

Mumbai: The cyber cell of
Thane Police on Tuesday warned citizens to be careful of fraudsters who call seeking details for
coronavirus vaccine registration .
In an advisory issued by the authorities, they stated that a group of fraudsters has been calling people and asking them their details for getting themselves registered for the
COVID-19 vaccine.
These callers seek the Aadhaar card details, email ID, and other information of the receiver, post which they ask them to authenticate their Aadhaar number by sharing a One Time Password (OTP).

The Mumbai police s Crime Branch, in its remand note submitted before a magistrate s court, sought further custody of Dasgupta, claiming he was the mastermind of the alleged TRP scam.

The Mumbai police on Monday told a local court that Partho Dasgupta, arrested former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), in alleged connivance with another ex-senior BARC official and Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, manipulated the television rating points (TRP) of Republic TV and its Hindi arm.
